The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education
The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) is an independent body entrusted with
monitoring and advising on standards and quality in UK higher education. Formed in 1997,
we have offices in Gloucester, London and Glasgow. QAA safeguard standards and support the
improvement of quality for students - whether they study at a university or college in the UK or in any
other location worldwide where courses lead to UK higher education qualifications. We check how UK
universities and colleges maintain their academic standards and quality. We review and report on how
they meet their responsibilities, identify good practice and make recommendations for improvement.
QAA also publish guidelines to help UK universities and colleges develop effective systems to ensure
students have the best learning experience. We are dedicated to checking that the three million
students working towards a UK qualification get the higher education experience they are
entitled to expect .
